Lt.-General John Mackensie. He was appointed Lieut. in 73d foot 1778, and Captain in an independent company 1782. In 1794 he was promited to a Majority in the 78th foot and he served in the campaign of that year in the Netherlands. In 1795 he was appointed Lt.-Col. of the same regiment, which he accompanied to the Cape of Good Hope and to India, and returned in 1802. He attained the rank of Colonel in 1802, Brigadier-General 1804, Major-General 1809, and Lieut.-General 1814; and served successively on the staff in Scotland, in Malta, and on the eastern coast of Spain. |
