Description  Met with a nasty accident at Beconpore, part of the sole of his foot getting caught in a sugar mill. Became manager of Kumtoul Factory. Later, Becher purchased Joynaggur, Narharh, Nawada, Beerpore and Tewarrah factories; got a cash outlay of three lakhs of rupees to carry on these enterprisestoo little of the cash reached the factory and, as a consequence, Becher came to grief. Then, Tom Slade took up the management of these factories for Becher and made a grand season, which enabled Becher to pay up what he owed. However, Becher did not like to be kept short of cash, so he again took up the management of his factories, and in a years time he was again in difficulties. Becher was a man trusted by the natives to any amount, and the essence of kindness and generosity. Any youngster fresh out of home was at once taken by the hand and shown the ropes. The way he used to look after his old grand-uncle, Captain Becher, was a picture. He had a great admiration for the old gentleman, who was sometimes a little hard on him.
