Surname  Mackinnon
Forename  Charles
Title  Dr.
Chapter  Tirhoot and Its Inhabitants of the Past
Sub-title  Biographical sketch: Edward Studd
Page nos.  272
Description  Planters doctor in Tirhoot. Brother-in-law of Edward Studd: Studd came up to Tirhoot under Mackinnon. Mackinnon was a great speculator and had had shares in many indigo concerns, as the mark CMCK, still existing, on a number of indigo factory chests, indicates. Like many others, dabbled in sugar, and became greatly involved [in debt], so he made his property over to Messrs. Gisborne and Company, who gave him a small allowance to live on at home. Gisborne and Company placed the management and superintendence of Dr. Mackinnons properties in E. Studds hands. Edward Studd and later, James Cox, managed, one at Dholi and the other at Seryiah. Their management proved very successful, and before many years they had pulled the places out of debt, and Dr. Charles Mackinnon was looked upon as a man of wealth.
