Description  Built Shahpur Oundie factory, 1790. Finch was �not fortunate in his speculations, as one of his managers got possession of all the indigo made and, disposing of it, cleared out with the proceeds;� as this left the proprietor �very much in debt, the agents took over all his property except Shahpur Oundie.� Grandfather of William. Of the fourth generation following Joseph I, there were still living c.1905 seven male heirs, six in Tirhoot and the priest brother in France.    
Indexer Notes  The first of the Finch family in Bengal was Joseph, who built Shahpore Oundie factory in 1790. In 1905, when Minden J. Wilson wrote his book, the fourth generation consisted of seven male heirs: six in Tirhoot, and a priest in France. The forenames were handed down from one generation to the next. The indexer has used the Roman numerals I, II and III to distinguish the different individuals. This convention was *not* employed by the author.
