Description  Daunt was Minden J. Wilsons predecessor at Kurnoul Factory. Daunt got into trouble with the surrounding zemindars, by having undertaken the management of a beef club. Daunt purchased a number of dwarf bullocks, called Ghainees; took great care of them, and fattened them up for killing. Taking no notice of a local petition to spare the bullocks, a force of over a thousand men appeared and drove all of Daunts fattened bullocks into the Gorrukpore jungles. Eventually, the police imprisoned a few zemindars.
Indexer Notes  A Zamindár, or zemindar, was a landholder, or a collector of state revenuea position obtained by hereditary successionwith the right to mortgage and sell.
