Description  Paddy Dunn purchased the author�s [Minden J. Wilson�s] country-bred mare, Dulcinea del Tolboso, in 1854. He rode her all through the thick of the Mutiny of 1857-58, in company with the gallant Venables.    
Indexer Notes  In the book, The history of the Indian mutiny (pub. S.D. Brain, 1857; Vol II, pg. 208), the author, Charles Ball, wrote that Venables was resided �in the vicinity of Azimgurh�near which he possessed an extensive indigo plantation, and gave employment to a great number of people.� In his book, History of the Indian mutiny, 1857-1858, second edition (pub. London: W.H. Allen and Co., 1879; Vol. II, pg. 471, Colonel George Bruce Malleson provided the following, additional detail: �In this action [the passage of the river Tons, under Sir E. Lugard,] Mr. Venables, the indigo-planter, always to the front, always daring, and always, from his intimate acquaintance with the country, eminently useful, was severely wounded. To the regret of every soldier, he died of his wounds.�
