Description  Purchased Hariharpore Factory from Kazee Ramzan Ali in the early 1860s. Seemed �to have abandoned the place and the Maliks of the mokararie on which the factory stood sold it for rent due and took possession.� After the Maliks sold to Stephen Cooper, MacLean returned, ousting Cooper. �Cooper then started Nawadah factory close by Hariharpore, and the two places were at feud for some time. Eventually MacLean cleared out, and Hariharpore shut up for a time.�    
Indexer  (1) A Kazee, or Kázi, was a judge and registrar of marriages and divorces, holding a high place in Musalmán communities. (2) The word, málik, had a wide range of meanings: proprietor, owner, lord, cultivator possessing hereditary rights, landlord, zemindár, village agent for a zamindár, accountant, farmer, messenger, or constable. (3) A late 19th century definition of the word, mokarrarie: �permanent intermediate land tenure.� Source: The Limited Raj: Agrarian Relations in Colonial India, Saran District, 1793-1920, by Anand A.
