Source: Journal of a Visit to India and the East, by John McClelland (Glasgow: James MacLehose, 1877). Dr. Hill was Mr. McClellands son-in-law, as shown by the inscription: Inscribed to my daughters, Mrs. John Robinson Adams and Mrs. James Henry George Hill, and to my friend, Mrs. Charles Frederick Murray. McClellands book contains numerous references to the Hill family in India, viz. pages 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 76, 96, 104, 113, 114, 119, 120, 124, 126, 161. (2) Another book, Journal of a Visit to India and the East, by An Old Traveller (pub. by James Maclehose, St. Vincent Street, publisher to the University, Glasgow, 1877) contained a similar inscription to the authors daughters, Mrs. John Robinson Davis and Mrs. James Henry George Hill, and to his friend, Mrs. Charles Frederick Murray. The Preparatory Note reveals the author to have been James McClelland. Mentions were made of Robert Hill of Seraha, pp. 55ff; Barrha, the residence of his friend, Mr. Begg and his family, but which was the first residence of the Hill family in India; the founder was Henry Hill, who lived to the age of seventy-five and is buried in a tomb on the property; plus several other mentions of the Hill family.
