From 1952 Private Jn. Worlock of H.M.10th R K

Kirkee March 16th 1847

   My Dear Father.

I do with pleasure, take my pen in hand to address you, with these firm lines, hoping this will find you in good health as it leaves me. At present there are two young men in my Regiment, their friends are very respectable and being acquainted with a member of parliament, the same as you may be with J.W.C. or the Duke of Beaufort or -Crgr.- Hale or any member of parliament, by their friends speaking to them, asking him if he would interest himself in getting his son transfered to 3rd Light Dragoons, or any Regiment that they would wish to go to. By the member of Parliament appling to the commander and chief the D. Wellington. I would now think it a great favour if you will interfere, in so doing, as it will be doing me a very great favour. I have no complaint to make against the Regiment that I am now in, but as they are going I should wish to go with them.
They have recieved a letter from the commander and chief and they are safe to go but they may stop for two or three months and then if you apply directly that you get this, I will be able to go with them. The Regiment have been out 10 years and through all the late campaign, they will be comming home in two or three years and by that time I shall want to see some of my old friends again.

I have been expecting a letter from Mr. Hopkins. The Regiment is in very good health. I suppose you have seen it in the papers that the cash---- job is all over, they have given a good many million of money not to have anything to do with it and thrown it in the hands of the British, it is the richest place in India. I have no more to say at the present, with love to all my dear friends?
    I remain   I shall send a letter
        to Fitz by the same
Dear Brother   Dear Father   mail an answer
dont delay         to the one that I
any time   Your affectionate Son     received from him.

    John Phillips Worlock

P.S. Dear Father if you should get it done, which I have no doubt but you will. You will get a letter from horse Guards and please to enclose it and send it to me. It will be stating whether I have got the transfer. State that I have some friends their and I always had a particular wish to go to the 3rd Light Dragoons, lying at -Miret- Bengal Station East Indies.
