Ralph Bertram Shortland 1898 - 1968. Father of Phillip Shortland and grandfather of Cynthia Arnold. Ralph joined the Indian Post and Telegraph Service after the the first world war and worked his way up to Postmaster General. He was Postmaster in Nagpore and Bangalore, then Presidency Postmaster in Bombay and finally Postmaster General in Patna.
