In Memory of
The following Officers of the THIRTY SECOND Cornwall Regiment, Light Infantry,
who, with four hundred and forty eight Non Commissioned Officers and
Private Soldiers were killed or died in the discharge of their duty, During the defence
of Lucknow and Cawnpore, and the subsequent Campaign against the Mutineers
In the Year of our Lord 1857

FORTY THREE Soldiers Wives, and FIFTY FIVE Children of the
same Regiment Murdered at Cawnpore in June of the same fatal year.
This monument is erected by Friends and Comrades
in token of affection and sorrow

The sufferings of this present time
Are not worthy to be compared
With the Glory Which shall be revealed in us.
