who departed this life
on the 9th Septr. 1875
aged 23 years
"Remember thy creator in the days
of thy youth."
"Here we have no continuing city"
He had won the respect of all who
knew him and his death was considered a calamity.

This stone was erected by his comrade
bandsmen as a token of their esteem.

Comment

The comma between Marcus and Douglas suggests his name was Douglas Marcus and not vice versa.
