Memorial Tablet in the Parish Church of Coney Weston, Suffolk.

Comment

Sacred to the Memory of Maurice Dreyer of London, Merchant, who departed this life the 21st November 1786 in the 59th year of his age. And of Harriott, his beloved wife, only daughter of William Hale of Bury St. Edmunds, Esq., who died on the 3 of November 1814, aged 76 years. He was a man of warm feelings, but of strict integrity, reduced from affluence in the prime of life, by the fraudulent conduct of a partner in the foreign trade, he bore the total wreck of his property with fortitude and resignation. In remembrance of him & her, who, during his life was the best of wives & of mothers, her grateful son in law hath erected this tablet. -ooOoo- Extracted from notes in the church: Maurice Dreyer Was the son of John Daniel Dreyer Snr. and brother of John Daniel Dreyer Jnr. John Senior (? 1762) was a Flemish Merchant of Amsterdam who became naturalized English in 1754. He had significant dealings with the East India Company and lived in Jeffers Square, then in Muscovy Court, Tower Hill in London. He was associated with two colleagues (relations?): *Matthew Decker (1679-1749) a Chairman and Director of the East India Company *Gerard Van Neck (1691-1750), naturalized English in 1719, also a Director of the Eat India Company (1729-1731)
